Looking to the Future of Remote Work

Virtual work is here to stay, according to a recent study from Deloitte of approximately 2,000 consumers in Q1 of 2022. Remote work has shifted from an occasional perk to a preferred option, motivating many former office workers to seek companies supporting hybrid or all-virtual environments.

With this shift to working from home comes an increased demand for powerful, reliable Wi-Fi capable of streaming one or more video calls at once. Wi-Fi 6E routers have continued to spread through the market, including Apple’s recent debut of its first device with Wi-Fi 6E built in, the iPad Pro.

45% of consumers surveyed in the “Mastering the new digital life: 2022 Connectivity and Mobile Trends” study said one or more household members worked from home at least some of the time. 47% of employed adults reported working from home personally.

Most surprisingly, 99% of survey respondents who worked from home over the past year said they appreciated some aspects of the experience, including a lack of commute, reduced chance of illness, better focus and comfort and time with family.

Looking to the future, three-quarters of employed adults who have worked from home would prefer virtual or hybrid work environments, and half of all employed adults said they would prefer the same.

However, as the study said, “there’s still plenty of room to improve virtual work: remote employees still need better connectivity.” WifiForward agrees: this change “represents the largest societal change in many decades,” and our networks and spectrum allocated for those networks needs to support it.
