STATEMENT: WifiForward Statement on the House Introduction of the Spectrum Pipeline Act

Washington, D.C. – Today WifiForward released the following statement on the House introduction of the Spectrum Pipeline Act:

“Wi-Fi is a necessity in Americans’ daily lives and a key economic driver. We appreciate Representative Allen’s commitment to improving U.S. spectrum policy and agree that additional unlicensed spectrum is needed for advanced Wi-Fi. We look forward to learning more about Rep. Allen’s proposed spectrum pipeline legislation and working with him to ensure it does not end up picking winners and losers in the marketplace, undermining competition, national security, and U.S. jobs supported by Wi-Fi.

“The case for additional spectrum for unlicensed technologies such as Wi-Fi is clear. Cellphone users use significantly more data – nearly 90% –  over Wi-Fi connections rather than mobile. What’s more, demand for Wi-Fi-enabled devices is expected to increase by 288% in the next five years and the annual economic value of Wi-Fi will reach $2.7 trillion in 2027. WifiForward remains committed to working with Rep. Allen, other stakeholders in Congress, and the new administration on solutions that ensure Wi-Fi can keep up with growing consumer demand, preserve Wi-Fi’s economic benefits, and maintain U.S. leadership on cutting-edge technologies.”
