STATEMENT: WifiForward Statement on Big Cellular’s Latest Report Attempting to Take Spectrum Away from the American People

Washington, D.C.— WifiForward released the following statement today in response to the mobile carriers’ newest report, which attempts to reallocate the 6 GHz, lower 7 GHz and 4 GHz bands for licensed use:

“Following the 6th anniversary of President Trump’s landmark decision to unlock the 6 GHz band for unlicensed use, it should be no surprise that Big Cellular releases a sham report calling on the Administration to claw that spectrum back for Big Cellular’s self-serving exclusive, licensed use.

“Wi-Fi is an American success story benefiting millions of Americans, with up to 90% of smartphone data carried over Wi-Fi, not cellular. Yet Big Cellular’s report asks policymakers to undermine the very networks doing most of the work.

“Just this week, ABI Research released a report noting annual shipments of 6 GHz-enabled Wi-Fi chipsets soared from 200 million in 2022 to 1.1 billion in 2025, and are projected to reach 2.6 billion in 2030 – numbers that clearly demonstrate the critical need to use the full 6 GHz band, and then some.

“The American people won’t be fooled when the facts speak for themselves: the 6 GHz decision has delivered enormous benefits, including generating nearly $1 trillion in economic value in two years and solidifying America as a global leader. Don’t fall for Big Cellular’s latest trick: Wi-Fi is a success, and the mobile carriers want to unfairly take it away from the American people.”
