We are pleased that the FCC will vote on a TV White Space item during this month’s Open Meeting, an important step towards putting our unused TV airwaves to good use. This forward-leaning technology promises to connect schools, farms, hospitals and homes in unconnected communities nationwide — connections that will literally save lives during this pandemic and beyond. We commend the Commission for its commitment to efficient, smart spectrum policy like this.
Today, the D.C. Circuit Court made the right decision and rejected a request to stay the FCC’s well-vetted 6 GHz order. By opening the 6 GHz band, the FCC advanced innovation, investment, and faster broadband in a time when connectivity has never been more important. It’s a win for Wi-Fi and for consumers everywhere.
Washington, D.C.— The FCC’s bipartisan, unanimous and well-vetted decision to allow unlicensed sharing in the 6 GHz band is on track to revolutionize Wi-Fi and unleash unprecedented innovation in the U.S. And it couldn’t come at a better time as Americans are relying on Wi-Fi more than ever to stay connected, productive and safe. We commend the FCC for thoroughly studying this band and making the sound decision to open essential bandwidth to unleash faster, better devices and services for Americans across the country.
Remember flipping on an analog TV and noticing static in between the television channels? That’s exactly what leading technology and wireless companies are looking to put to use in an effort to deliver fast reliable internet connectivity to millions of Americans who currently lack high-speed broadband access.
