ICYMI: WifiForward Hosts Connectivity Showcase with Bipartisan Congressional Wi-Fi Caucus Co-Chairs and Industry Executives

Washington, DC — Last night, policymakers and industry leaders gathered to celebrate the re-launch of the bipartisan, bicameral Wi-Fi Caucus and highlight the critical role Wi-Fi plays in powering American innovation, economic growth, and connectivity.

Hosted at NCTA – The Internet & Television Association, the event featured immersive, hands-on demonstrations showcasing real-world connectivity solutions enabled by Wi-Fi.

  • Broadcom and Charter’s demo highlighted “Wi-Fi speeds of the future” with an experimental next-generation Wi-Fi technology capable of delivering lightning-fast downloads, seamless uploads, and high-performance connectivity by combining the full 6-GHz band with an additional 125 MHz of unlicensed spectrum in the 7.125–7.25 GHz range. It showed how this expanded spectrum can enable ultra-wide channels that dramatically increase speed, capacity, and reliability to support Americans’ record-shattering wireless data consumption and support data-intensive environments such as stadiums, airports, and large residential and commercial buildings.
  • Comcast’s demo, “Comcast WiFi: Delivering Value for American Consumers Today and Tomorrow,” highlighted how next-generation Wi-Fi supports secure, high-performance, and resilient connectivity for millions of American households. Attendees saw how innovations such as WiFi Motion enable whole home awareness, how device prioritization supports moments that require peak performance, and how advanced gateways and extenders are designed to support multigig speeds and the growing number of connected devices in today’s homes.
  • eero, an Amazon company, showcased a variety of cutting-edge eero devices, demonstrating how Wi-Fi 7 is widely available at retail and that consumers are interested in having the best wireless experience in their homes. A variety of Wi-Fi 7 retail devices were displayed to drive this point home, with eero representatives there to explain the product and why it matters.

Co-chairs of the Congressional Wi-Fi Caucus emphasized Wi-Fi’s role as a foundational technology that supports widespread, affordable connectivity nationwide:

“The mission for the Wi-Fi Caucus is to educate members of Congress on the importance of Wi-Fi,” said Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE). “And just because that’s a straightforward mission doesn’t mean it’s easy or unimportant. It’s actually critically important…It’s about economic opportunity and innovation. America is one of the places that leads in Wi-Fi. Ninety-two percent of households have access to Wi-Fi. We must continue to lead the innovation, and all this is tied together to national security.”

“Access to affordable, reliable, high-speed internet is no longer a luxury,” said Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV). “It’s actually a necessity, and high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, is critical in connecting families. It helps small businesses to grow. It supports our education, our healthcare, and it opens doors and opportunities regardless of where you live. And that’s part of the reason why our efforts in Congress to make these tools more accessible for every family across the nation are bipartisan. It’s so important to each and every one of us, and I’m so excited to help launch and be part of the bipartisan, and for the first time, bicameral, Congressional Wi-Fi Caucus.”

“The future is today, but we’ve got to do more, and that’s why this Caucus is so important,” said Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH-05). “We want to make sure it’s [Wi-Fi] out there, and so it’s getting it across the country, and that’s one of the things we want to get better.”

“There are things that members of Congress from different parties are going to have different ideas on, but this is one that we all agree on, the importance of making sure that Wi-Fi is accessible, affordable, state of the art, and available to everyone,” said Rep. Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-LA-02). “It is so critically important that we stay ahead of the curve in making sure that no part of our community is left behind. The digital divide is real.”

Here’s what industry executives had to say:

“Wi-Fi is at the heart of how people live and thrive today—from connecting communities, loved ones, classrooms, and businesses to powering sports and entertainment experiences and driving the innovation that strengthens the U.S. economy and national security. Comcast is investing to deliver affordable, reliable, and secure connectivity to customers across the country,” said Lance West, Executive Vice President, Federal Government Affairs, Comcast Corporation. “We appreciate the Congressional Wi-Fi Caucus shining a light on the essential role Wi-Fi plays in Americans’ daily lives and its attention to advancing policies that will support the nation’s growing connectivity needs, fuels American innovation, and uphold U.S. global Wi-Fi leadership.”

Nearly 90% of mobile data traffic in the U.S. never touches a cellular network—it runs over Wi-Fi.  Wi-Fi is the foundation and the heavy lifter of Wireless. Wi-Fi also defines the Internet.  That is no one asks if there is “Internet” available anymore, rather they ask for “WiFi,” said Dave Rodrian, Group Vice President, Wi-Fi and Connected Home, Charter. “That transformation was only possible because policymakers made a bold choice years ago… to enable unlicensed spectrum in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands – and, more recently, in 6 GHz. Those decisions unlocked one of the greatest technology success stories of our time- technology that touches nearly every aspect of our daily lives.”

“Eero is a great example of American innovation,” said Sean Harris, President & Chief Marketing Officer, eero (an Amazon company). “We were a venture funded startup in San Francisco… We have now in tens of millions of households across 28 countries, and we work with more than 180 ISP partners around the world.”

“The permissionless innovation that is created by Wi-Fi, the American ingenuity and opportunity created by Wi-Fi, the $2.4 trillion economic impact created by Wi-Fi, the 13 million jobs and opportunities created by Wi-Fi, thanks to policies that have allowed us to shore up and make sure that we can continue to thrive in the six-gigahertz band, making sure that we take that internationally, globally, making sure that that American opportunity for investment and success continues,” said Cory Gardner, President and CEO, NCTA- The Internet & Television Association.
