An Unlicensed Spectrum Summer

As Covid restrictions are lifted and Americans go back to a pre-pandemic lifestyle, unlicensed spectrum is more important than ever. Especially with summer travel, the need for strong, reliable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity is on the rise.

Wi-Fi has proven to be an irreplaceable part of our everyday life. Over 157 million American households have a wireless assistant to provide weather updates or find us the best BBQ recipes. Even when going on trips, we use Wi-Fi to download videos and music to have a relaxed and fun journey. And if we forget to turn off the AC at home while we go off on a summer vacation, we can rely on smart thermostats for temperature control.

And while Wi-Fi is an essential part of summer, we can’t forget about all of our Bluetooth gadgets, which operate in the same 2.4 GHz unlicensed spectrum as Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is instrumental in ensuring AirDrop or Nearby Share works and allows us to transfer photos for our Instagram posts and stories. Beach days just aren’t complete if Maroon 5’s Sugar hasn’t been blasted over a Bluetooth speaker.

Summer is heating up quickly and Americans are going on the vacations they missed last year, but traveling doesn’t mean losing connectivity. It’s officially Hot Wi-Fi Summer and we have to make the best of it. A safe, fun and connected summer is just over the horizon.
