Today is World Wi-Fi Day, a chance to celebrate how far Wi-Fi has come, what it does for us now and the exciting future it has in store!
In honor of this day, we’d like to share the top three reasons we love Wi-Fi:
1) Wi-Fi enables next-generation technology.
Wi-Fi powers the technology we use every day. Today, smart home devices make our lives easier. Next generation baby monitors track sleep patterns, smart refrigerators tell us to buy milk, smart pressure cookers start dinner for us while we’re on the go and smart fans sync with our thermostats to adjust automatically. Smart home assistants allow us to check the weather, make grocery lists, play music, stream Netflix and more by just using our voices. All of these devices run over our home Wi-Fi networks.
2) Wi-Fi fuels our economy.
Wi-Fi isn’t only a necessity for consumers — businesses rely on it to run their critical day-to-day operations. At airports, airlines use Wi-Fi to keep track of baggage, gate agents use it to check in passengers and pilots use it to report weather conditions. Hospitals use Wi-Fi to run crucial devices like infusion pumps, oxygen monitoring devices and smart beds and keep patients connected to the care team around the clock. Wi-Fi is also critical for small businesses, as it improves customer experience and employee productivity and allows startups to operate without a traditional office space, providing greater potential for growth. In total, Wi-Fi adds $525 billion of value to our economy each year!
3) Wi-Fi is getting even faster.
As the Wi-Fi Alliance announced earlier this year, a new standard of Wi-Fi has arrived. It is called Wi-Fi 6 and it is already supercharging today’s Wi-Fi. It is faster, more reliable, and is better able to support our next-generation devices. In addition to providing faster connections, Wi-Fi 6 is able to communicate with dozens of devices at once without sacrificing speed. It also allows for more efficient battery usage on our Wi-Fi-connected mobile devices. All in all, this means an upgraded consumer experience while traveling through airports, gaming at home, attending sporting events or concerts at stadiums and so much more.
On World Wi-Fi Day, we’re thrilled at the opportunity to celebrate Wi-Fi and celebrate the way it connects us to the world and one another.
