Washington, D.C. – Today, the Federal Communications Commission will consider several issues relating to unlicensed and shared spectrum including the Citizens Broadband Radio Service and expanding unlicensed operations to the 6 GHz spectrum band. In addition, in recent weeks there have been renewed calls from FCC Commissioners to open the unused 5.9 GHz band for unlicensed uses like Wi-Fi. WifiForward released the following statement in response:
Last year, uses of unlicensed and shared spectrum added over $525 Billion to the U.S. economy and are expected to add over $800 billion by 2020 as the next generation of Wi-Fi and other technologies deliver on the low latency, connectivity and efficiency promises of 5G networks. But we need the right spectrum resources to make that happen. We appreciate the focus FCC Chairman Pai and his colleagues have given to unleashing more shared and unlicensed spectrum. This is the bipartisan, forward-leaning and balanced spectrum policy we need.
