Before you head out on your vacation this summer, if you are planning on travelling by plane it is important to know which airports have the fastest Wi-Fi. Ookla LLC, a software firm based in Seattle, WA, recently released a new report ranking the top 10 fastest airports in the U.S. and Canada by Wi-Fi download speed. You’ve experienced or heard through the grapevine that certain airports in North America have faster Wi-Fi speeds than others, but why is that the case?
As the report states, keeping on top of Wi-Fi improvements can make all the difference in the fast-paced world we live in. Seattle-Tacoma International more than doubled its download speed from last year, reaching 103 Mbps (from 43.66 Mbps in 2017). This change was a result of the various capital projects costing over $2 billion that the airport is currently undergoing–Wi-Fi clearly made the list of priorities to accommodate the airport’s continued growth and boom of passengers.
As an added bonus, Ookla reports on the airports whose Wi-Fi has improved the most from 2017.

Several airports saw an overall decline in Wi-Fi speeds since 2017 (Detroit, Miami, and Dallas- Ft. Worth). Time will tell if they join peers Atlanta, Orlando and Seattle-Tacoma in investing in better Wi-Fi facilities in the future; it’s clear that’s where trends are heading.
