Washington, D.C. – Today, WifiForward issued the following statement in response to the Presidential Memoranda released regarding critical spectrum bands:
“This latest Presidential Memoranda is a setback for American families and business given the lower 7 GHz band’s potential to generate at least $79.62 billion in economic value over just the next two years if allocated to Wi-Fi. American consumers want more Wi-Fi, not more expensive licensed spectrum. Today, 17 to 30 million Americans live in Wi-Fi-congested areas, and unless more spectrum is allocated to Wi-Fi, 54 million more U.S. families and businesses face Wi-Fi congestion in the next five years, threatening more buffering on household devices, trillions in economic value, and millions of jobs. We urge the Administration to consider the broader public interest and allocate more spectrum for Wi-Fi so that the workhorse of mobile traffic – carrying up to 90% of traffic and helping keep mobile prices affordable – isn’t stifled and can continue to grow and deliver for American consumers.”
